Gocheok Dome undergoes a transformation ahead of the MLB opening game

 Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, where the U.S. Major League Baseball (MLB) game will be held in March, is properly preparing to welcome guests.


On March 20th and 21st, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres will hold the Seoul Series, which also serves as the opening game of the 2024 MLB regular season, at Gocheok Dome.

As this is the first MLB regular league game to be played in Korea, expectations are high not only for Korean fans but also for those in the United States. ESPN will broadcast this game live across the United States.

The Dodgers currently have Shohei Otani, the best baseball star, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who recently set a new record for the highest salary for an MLB pitcher.

San Diego also has Japanese pitchers Yu Darvish and Yuki Matsui, as well as Koreans Kim Ha-seong and Ko Woo-seok, so there is a lot of interest in the Seoul Series in Korea and Japan.

The problem is the condition of the stadium.

Although Gocheok Dome, which was completed in 2015, is a relatively new baseball stadium, it was criticized for its poor ground condition and clubhouse facilities. Additionally, the chronic problem of water leakage was highlighted. Accordingly, there were many evaluations that it was not sufficient to host an international competition.

The MLB Secretariat dispatched an inspection team to Gocheok Dome, the official opening match venue, in August of last year to inspect the facilities, and requested environmental improvements from the Seoul Facilities Corporation, which manages Gocheok Dome.

Accordingly, the complex is in the midst of extensive internal construction this winter.

The complex is being transformed into a completely new interior by removing all artificial turf, mounds, and fence facilities within Gocheok Dome.

Even the clubhouse facilities where players unpack are being repaired, raising expectations for the Seoul Series.

The Dodgers team, which is about to visit Korea, announced the news of Gocheok Dome's transformation on the club's official SNS on the 12th and expressed interest in the Seoul Series by posting "See you soon, Seoul."
