MLB Athletics leaves Oakland for ‘Las Vegas’

Oakland, California, USA has now become a city far from professional sports.

On the 16th, local media such as ESPN reported the news of the team owners' meeting held in Arlington, Texas, USA. According to this news, Major League Baseball team owners unanimously approved the relocation of the Athletics team from Oakland to Las Vegas.

Accordingly, Athletics was able to move its headquarters to Las Vegas, Badaju. The Athletics team has already been preparing internally for the move, and has appealed for approval through various channels. Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred also shared the story behind the fact that he came to actively support the construction of a new stadium due to Oakland City's passive attitude and unstable security conditions.

As the move to the hometown has been confirmed, the Athletics will remain in Oakland only until next season, when the lease contract for the Coliseum baseball stadium expires. During this year, there are many tasks that need to be resolved in close cooperation with Las Vegas for the baseball stadium and new stadium that will be used starting in 2025.

The Athletics was first founded in Philadelphia in 1901, moved to Kansas City in 1955, and again to Oakland in 1968, where it has remained for 55 years. However, Oakland's home stadium, the Coliseum Stadium, is a complex stadium that is somewhat difficult to play baseball in, and because it is shared with the NFL's Raiders, the facility itself is quite outdated. Because of this, several attempts were made to build a new stadium or relocate the stadium, but things did not go as planned. Then, when the Raiders first relocated to Las Vegas, it became easier for the Athletics to pursue this as well.

As a result, Auckland will remain as a city without a single professional sports connection after 2024.

Major League Baseball's most recent location relocation dates back to 2005. The Expos, who were based in Montreal, Canada at the time, moved to Washington and became the current 'Nationals.' Prior to this, Washington was home to the 'Senators' team until 1972, but when they moved to Texas, they became the current Rangers team.
