No score for a month → Shake your position? Richarlison still ranks second in team assists

Richarlison helped Son Heung-min for the second time in a row.

Tottenham Hotspur won 2-0 over Fulham in the 9th round of the 2023-24 season Premier League (PL) held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England at 4 a.m. on the 24th (Korean time). Tottenham regained first place in the league with 23 points, undefeated in the opening 9 games (7 wins, 2 draws).

On this day, Tottenham used a 4-2-3-1 formation. Son Heung-min was at the front, with Richarlison, James Madison, and Dejan Kulusevski behind him. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Pape Sar formed the midfield, while Destiny Udogi, Mickey van der Ven, Christian Romero, and Pedro Foro formed the back four. The goalkeeper gloves were worn by Guglielmo Vicario.

To counter this, Fulham also used a 4-2-3-1 formation. Carlos Vinicius was the lone striker, and Willian, Andreas Pereira, and Bobby de Cordoba-Reed formed the second line. Joao Palinha and Sasha Lukic played as midfielders, while Anthony Robinson, Tim Liam, Calvin Vesey and Timothy Castagne made up the back four. The goal was guarded by Bernd Leno.

Tottenham, who had been attacking Fulham from the beginning of the first half, scored the first goal. In the 35th minute of the first half, Van der Ven intercepted Fulham's pass from a high position. After Richarlison caught it, he immediately gave the ball to Son Heung-min. Son Heung-min beat a defender in front of the penalty box and then hit the net with a sensational right-foot curling shot.

Tottenham, who took the lead, even scored an additional goal early in the second half. In the 9th minute of the second half, Hojbjerg cut off Bessie's pass. The ball that Hojbjerg cut off was connected to Son Heung-min, who immediately passed the pass to Madison. Madison lightly shook the net.

In the end, Tottenham succeeded in regaining the league lead with a 2-0 win. Tottenham, who secured 23 points with 7 wins, 2 draws, and no loss in the opening 9 games, surpassed Manchester City and Arsenal (21 points). In addition, Son Heung-min scored his 7th league goal and rose to tied for second place in scoring. Erling Haaland is first with 9 goals, followed by Salah and Son Heung-min.

The player who assisted Son Heung-min's goal is Richarlison. In particular, Richarlison assisted Son Heung-min's first goal in the previous match against Liverpool. Both of Son Heung-min's last two goals were assisted by Richarlison. After assisting Dejan Kulusevski's goal in a game against Sheffield United in mid-September, Son Heung-min has provided two assists.

Richarlison currently has 1 goal and 3 assists in 9 league games. He ranks second in assists on the team after Madison. Richarlison joined Tottenham ahead of last season. He was a player who had already proven himself on the PL stage by showing outstanding performance at Everton. Tottenham brought him in to strengthen their attack, but his first season was disappointing. He only scored one goal in the league.

He didn't get off to a good start this season either. Richarlison was given the opportunity to become the starting lone striker when Kane left for Bayern Munich. He started in all of the PL opening matches against Brentford and matches against Manchester United and Bournemouth. But the result was no score.

Coach Enze Postecoglou placed Son Heung-min at the front line instead of Richarlison. Coincidentally, Son Heung-min has scored 7 goals since taking over as the lone striker. Richarlison's position was likely to decrease, but he continues to receive opportunities due to the injuries of offensive resources such as Brennan Johnson, Manor Solomon, and Ivan Perisic. Although he has not scored, he has added 2 assists recently and is contributing to Tottenham's upward trend.

After the game, the British Evening Standard rated it 8 points, saying, "Richarlison made a quick decision and assisted Son Heung-min's goal. He showed a creative and threatening appearance on the left side. However, he missed an opportunity early in the second half." I gave it. Britain's 'Football London' said, "He showed his influence by assisting Son Heung-min's goal with a quick pass."
