KBO September monthly MVP candidates announced

In the pitcher category, LG Kim Jin-seong, NC Peddie, Samsung Buchanan, and Doosan Jeong Cheol-won were named. Among the fielders, SSG Hanyu Island, LG Hong Chang-ki, and KIA Kim Seon-bin were selected as candidates. The September MVP will be selected by combining the results of the Korea Baseball Writers' Association vote as well as the fan vote conducted through the Shinhan Bank Sol app from the 6th to the 10th.

As the players who performed the best each month were carefully selected, the competition is fierce.

LG, which confirmed the regular season championship, produced two candidates. Kim Jin-seong pitched in 16 of the 24 games LG played in September, taking the middle relief pitch and closing pitch, ranking first in pitcher appearances. He also performed well with 12⅓ innings, 3 saves, 7 holds, and an ERA of 0.73. Hong Chang-gi contributed to LG's early win in the pennant race by being tied for second in hits (35), first in runs scored (23), and third in on-base percentage (0.486) during the month of September. With a season on-base percentage of 0.448, Hong Chang-gi is likely to be ranked first in on-base percentage for the second time following the 2021 season.

NC Pedi, which is aiming for the ‘Triple Crown’, is also worth paying attention to. Peddie, who has 3 wins in 4 games in September and an ERA of 0.66, is overwhelmingly first in season wins (19 wins), ERA (2.13), and strikeouts (198). If the season ends like this, it is likely that he will become the 7th pitcher to win three crowns, 12 years after KIA Yoon Seok-min in the 2011 season. In addition, if he adds 1 win and 2 strikeouts in the remaining games, he will become the first foreigner in 37 years to achieve the feat of 20 wins and 200 strikeouts, following Haitai's Sun Dong-yeol in the 1986 season.

Doosan Jeong Cheol-won is firmly protecting the back door of the team that is competing fiercely for the rankings at the end of the season with 7 saves in the month of September. He recorded an ERA of 1.42 in 12⅓ innings, including multiple innings three times in 12 appearances. SSG Hanyu Island ranked first in both batting average (0.431) and on-base percentage (0.507) during the month of September. He ranked 5th in the category with 28 hits, including 7 multi-hits, out of 20 games.

Samsung Buchanan recorded 3 wins and an ERA of 1.10 in 5 games in September. In particular, he achieved his 10th win of the season against Doosan in Jamsil on the 9th of last month, recording double-digit wins for 4 consecutive seasons. KIA Kim Seon-bin ranked first in the category with 38 hits in the month of September.

The final results of September's MVP voting will be announced on the 12th. The selected player will receive a prize of 2 million won, and a donation of 2 million won will be delivered in the player's name to the middle school from which the MVP-winning domestic player is sponsored by Shinhan Bank.
