First loss, AG had a big impact’ GAM Supporter Palette’s ‘Secret of 2 consecutive wins’

On the 14th, I met ‘Palette’ Nguyen Hai Trung right after completing his revenge story with Loud. With an expression of comfort rather than joy, he is a veteran supporter of Vietnam and GAM, who led the legend of Phong Bu Buffalo in 2018.

Just like the sense of stability that comes from his long career, he conducted the interview coherently even in potentially tense situations.

When asked by the author about his thoughts after the game, he said that the development of 'teamwork' was more positive than 'victory'. He added that the mutual playmaking and strategic moves of trusting each other (the law of the diagonal) were positive.

You lost the previous match against Loud, but what was the biggest difference this time that allowed you to win? He said there were problems with practice, mentality and adaptation.

“RDAG, because we were participating in the Asian Games, we did not have enough training time. We also had to adapt in Korea. The results were good in scrimmages and practice games, but we were unable to win because we were under too much pressure to produce good results.”

1 Since he was participating as a representative of Sid and Vietnam (RDAG/AG), the fans' expectations were high. There were mistakes as we had to prepare in a short period of time, but the biggest factor was that we were greatly shaken by an unexpected loss in the first game.

Considering that he was greatly shaken in the first game of the competition, it seems that he felt different from the pressure he felt about his performance in the VCS. What difference was there?

"When I joined, GAM was already maintaining a high ranking in the VCS, so I only thought about advancing to Worlds. I didn't feel much pressure about ranking in the VCS. From the beginning, it was different from Worlds, where you had to compete with the best teams in each region. It's bound to be different."

"Personaly, my goal was to reach the quarterfinals, a dream I couldn't achieve during my time at Pongbu Buffalo, but as the goal was so big, the shock and pressure I felt after losing the first set was really great, wondering if I was going to fall like this. That was my first loss. "I don't think it led to that."

Rather, in the past, Palette achieved outstanding results at the World Championship just a few months after joining Pongbu Buffalo. Although the results are still something to be seen, the driving force behind that performance at the time was more of a sensation than it is now as a veteran. I wondered what it might have been.

“It’s simple. Everyone had the same goal. Everyone was ready to give their heart to win the VCS, win the World Championship, and win again.”

It would be hard to say that the passion had cooled, but the answer was that there was heat in Pongbu at that time. So, has that passion cooled now that you have become a veteran? As a final question, I was curious about what kind of determination you have for the game and how you will approach the game in the future.

"We've been saying this to each other recently. Let's not worry too much about the game or think too much about it until the game starts. I don't know if it's because of this, but we've won two games in a row and are in a good mood. If you're too worried about something, it won't work out. "

In short, it was ‘let’s calm down.’ The goal of Palette and GAM Esports was to maintain an appropriate level of tension without becoming too impatient or too pessimistic. This was the secret to GAM's second consecutive win.

When something doesn't work out, you tend to get impatient. However, just as GAM, which was about to be eliminated, reorganized its team through 'calm down', GAM believes that the way for teams at risk of elimination in the future Swiss stage to escape the crisis is to regain their cool first rather than overheating with too much activity. It is proving.
