“Meeting with Ohtani,” was the only one made public.

What will be the final destination of free agent Shohei Ohtani, a topic of great interest?

During the winter meeting, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was the only person to publicly reveal that he had met with Ohtani. This is in contrast to the fact that officials from the Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, and LA Angels, who are considered final contenders for Otani's recruitment, consistently gave 'no comment'.

Manager Roberts met Ohtani in person and expressed the Dodgers' desire to recruit Ohtani. MLB.com reported on the 6th (Korean time), “Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who is attending the winter meeting, revealed that he recently met Ohtani at Dodger Stadium, his home stadium.”

In an interview with reporters during the winter meeting, Coach Roberts gave an honest answer to the reporter's question, 'Did you meet Ohtani?' Director Roberts responded, “To be honest, we met.” He continued, “I don’t think it’s right to lie. The fact that I met with Ohtani will be revealed someday.”

Ohtani’s agent asked clubs hoping to recruit Ohtani to keep the negotiations and meetings private. Japanese media Chunichi Sports reported “Agent Otani issued a silence order. It was an unusual statement while the Toronto, San Francisco, and Angels teams said 'no comment.' Toronto manager Schneider, who was previously interviewed by reporters, avoided commenting on Ohtani, but Dodgers manager Roberts was completely different. According to the insider, Director Roberts expressed his feelings honestly and not intentionally.

What impact will Director Roberts’ surprising remarks have on future negotiations with Ohtani? According to Chunichi Sports, a local American reporter said, "I don't think Ohtani will change the club he has in mind just because (the meeting) has been made public. If Ohtani wants to play for the Dodgers, he will decide it's the Dodgers."

On the other hand, a baseball official expressed the opinion, "If the negotiation process is revealed to the media, it will be difficult for the team." Regarding Ohtani's negotiations, agents are conducting negotiations in secret, and club officials are silent about the negotiations. Recently, it was revealed through the American media that Ohtani visited San Francisco's home stadium, Oracle Park, and Toronto's spring training camp site. However, officials from the San Francisco and Toronto teams made no comment.

Director Roberts disclosed that he met with Ohtani, but did not reveal the details of the negotiations. Coach Roberts had a 2-3 hour meeting with Ohtani, and said, “The interview went well, and the team and player became more familiar through the meeting. “It was a pleasure to spend time with Otani,” he commented on a general level.

MLB.com said, “It is impossible to predict when Ohtani will make a final decision, but Manager Roberts hopes Ohtani will make a decision quickly. Coach Roberts said, "Recruiting Ohtani is our top priority."

Ohtani appeared in 135 games as a hitter this season and recorded a batting average of .304 (151 in-hits in 497 at-bats), 44 home runs, 95 RBIs, 102 runs, and an OPS of 1.066. Next year, he will not be able to pitch as a pitcher and will focus only on being a hitter.

American media predicts that Ohtani's value is soaring, exceeding $500 million and reaching a mega-contract of $600 million. According to the analysis of American media so far, It has been reported that the Dodgers are ahead of the competition to recruit Ohtani, and attention is being paid to what impact Manager Roberts' unexpected public remarks will have.
